Referred to as “fashion’s biggest event of the season,”
the Met Gala is the most upscale party of the century that serves up some fresh
iconic style. A fundraising benefit for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New
York City, the event welcomes stars from all walks of the industry.
The excitement doesn’t just stop at the who’s who
crowd! The Gala also signifies the highly anticipated grand opening of the Costume
Institute’s annual fashion exhibition. This year, Comme des Garcons, designer Rei
Kawakubo with an exhibit entitled “Art of the In-Between.”
Each year’s event celebrates the theme of this seasons
costume exhibit. “Art of the In-Between” set the tone for the formal dress of
the night. Guests can look forward to a cocktail hour, formal dinner and a beautiful
tour of the famed exhibition followed by entertainment and good old fashioned mingling.
What does it mean to dress “Avant-Garde”? This was the
question on Monday night that pegged many people at the Met Gala, and the
answer was always going to be a doozy. On the other hand, the term avant-garde implies
to all sorts of things: pushing boundaries, breaking rules, going as unconventional
as possible.
The artistic side of the clothes from the Gala is what
keeps people tuned in. One thing people don’t realize is each celebrity is
trying to out dress each other. Even if it isn’t broadcasted to billions of
people. It is beyond obvious what each stylist has up their sleeves. Get people
talking about my garment and I have automatic status the next day.
Who can dress the closest to the bazar theme? It seems
the obvious move would be to wear clothes from Comme des Garcons, the brand
being celebrated at the event, with the inspiration being the dress code of the
night. For most stars, they tried to keep as close to the theme as possible
with their own mix on the special occasion.
It’s not an easy balance to achieve, but here are the
looks that stood out the most and are defiantly the greatest hits of the
evening.
 |
Cara Delevingne’s bold fashion choice stood out in a
glittery sense. Her Chanel silver tailored suit was gorgeous from head-to-toe!
However, making her invisible with a spray painted glitter head was a little
too Sci-Fi for even the boldest fashionista.

 |
Thandie Newton really went for it with her bold ravishing red dress! Her high-fashion flowers were picked apart by most critics. I have to say, I disagree she killed it here. The smokey eye was another beautiful stand out choice of the evening. |
 |
Dakota Johnson attempted to showcase larger than life volume with her goth Gucci look. The dress is stunning, but if the ruffles around her face were removed, it would be so chic. |
 |
Blake Lively looked like a golden peacock and quite frankly, she was one of my favourites of the night. I love how glamorous and unusual this dress is. |
 |
The back of Lively's gown! So beautiful defiantly a star of the night. |
 |
Star studded couple alert! |
 |
Chrissy Teigen, Georgina Chapman, Rita Ora were triple threats with these high end gowns. |
 |
Gigi normally looks so in-fashion, when it comes to her street style hits. It seems she missed the memo here. Did she get dressed in the dark? |
 |
Miranda Kerr looked very Grace Kelly, in her floral gown . |
 |
Gisele sparkled like a diamond in Stella McCartney . |
 |
Not being afraid to show skin. |
 |
Madonna and Jeremy Scott look like they got lost at a Halloween party. |
 |
Zendaya took us to the 70's in her D&G dress. |
 |
Behati Prinslo looked so gorgeous in this white dress. Her sparkling accessories made for an iconic look. |
 |
Supermodel status! |
 |
I loved Stella Maxwell's bedded display. Very 1920's Chanel with a more modern choice. |
